Round 2 - Brands Hatch GP - 23 May 2010
BRANDS HATCH RACE REPORT
Round 3 of the 2010 SPEED sports prototype series on the Brands Hatch GP circuit saw Round 1 winner Jody Firth (Team WFR Ligier) take the top step on the podium once again, partnered on this occasion by Joey Foster with regular sidekick Warren Hughes away on duties elsewhere.
The pair was dominant, qualifying on pole by just over half a second and finishing 2 laps ahead of the Jota Sport Ligier of Round 2 winner Simon Dolan, himself driving with a new partner – Ollie Hancock deputising for brother Sam, who’s recent call-up to Aston Martin Racing’s Le Mans scuderia meant he watched from the pit wall. Barry Gates and Rob Garofall (RLR Msport Ligier), themselves Le Mans Series entrants in 2010, were third.
In the Class C category race for bike-engined cars, Graham Hill and Rod Stead’s WSC Motorsport Radical ProSport won by a lap from the Shaun Mellors/Gary Ramsdale Radical SR3. Richard Fearns – who took ownership of his SR3 just 3 days before the event – finished 3rd in class.
Class B, the category for the older Honda EP3 engine cars, featured one entrant – the Juno of Zubin Randeria and James Fillingham. They suffered a number of technical issues but persevered to finish the race 9th overall and collect a trophy. In the class D invitation category, the Moore Racing Mosler of Dave Shelton, Paul O’Neil and Phil Quaife came home 1st in class and 8th overall.
